Personal Reflection:
I really appreciated the book, its depiction of the Mexican Revolution, and its direct succinct style. The Mexican Revolution is often forgotten but was as eventful and transformative as any other revolution.
John Reed transports you to the Mexico of the 1910’s among the peons and peasants fighting for a better life. He paints a portrait of Mexico entering modernity with a bang. Pancho Villa is a prominent character that looms large across the book.
His depiction is that a noble Robin Hood turned statesman and general. The general bravado showed by the peons and by Reed himself is astonishing.
Overall Rating:
4 out of 5

Any person who likes historical events, revolutions, or wants to know more about Mexican history. The book is also a great read for anyone interested in the foreign correspondent writing style prevalent among journalists in the early 20th century.
